Rad Reading-April

For the month of April I read the book Scythe by Neal Shusterman. This story takes place in a very distant future we’re humans have invented a cure for all diseases illnesses and figured out how to beat age. Expect there’s only one problem, the population needs to be controlled so there are these people who are called scythes they are the only ones who are allowed to kill. A boy named Rowan Damisch and a girl, Citra Terranova, two completely random people who are both selected as apprentices to a scythe named Honorable Scythe Faraday and one of them will one day have to become a scythe but neither of them want to.

I recommend reading this book because the author did an amazing job on capturing the gravity of what’s on the line for Citra and Rowan and the things that happen throughout their journeys. Another thing I love about this book is it has some interesting implicit elements for example the country that Citra and Rowan live in is called MidAmerica which is probably Los Angeles or New York. One more thing that I find interesting is that both Citra and Rowan had to experience well known things in our time like prison or even driving our own cars and they thought their “ancestors”(us) were crazy!

My favorite character was Citra. Citra was my favorite character because she was compassionate and feels for the people who have to die. One of her character traits are sympathetic. A quote that proves this character trait is, “Citra’s eyes were moist. She pressed her lips together.” This was her reaction when she witnessed her first execution, she met the person maybe two minutes ago, witnessed her death, and now crying for her.these are the reasons Citra is my favorite character.

My favorite quote from Scythe by Neal Shusterman is, “There was only one person who shared his plight. That was Citra. If they couldn’t find a way to trust each other, then what did they hav beyond a learners permit to kill?” This is my favorite quote because I think it sums up Citras and Rowan’s relationship quite well.
